The Digital Innovation Group (DIG) at Providence Health & Services is a small but mighty product development and incubation team that is building next-gen tools that give patients convenient and easy access to healthcare virtually anywhere, anytime.
The Senior Software Engineer I - Mobile focuses on building mobile applications for Android and iOS devices. This individual is a seasoned, experienced, fully functioning member of the mobile development team who understands and applies a wide variety of concepts, practices and procedures of software engineering, and can resolve a wide range of issues with mobile development in creative ways. This individual is a specialist in at least one mobile development area. The Senior Software Engineer I - Mobile will mentor other engineers, set and meet commitments, deadlines, and high standards for the team, communicate proactively and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, and be able to work collaboratively and independently but ask for general guidance on new projects or unfamiliar areas. This person will also create functional and technical designs, and is often the lead on high complexity tasks or features. Finally, this person will demonstrate good judgment and use your expertise in selecting methods and techniques for developing solutions that are robust, reliable, testable, and maintainable from an operations perspective.
Key Working Relationships:
The position reports to the Executive Director of Software Engineering and must establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff at all levels of Providence Health & Services staff, vendors, agents, and others.
Essential Job Functions:
Write end to end software solutions using the latest native Mobile frameworks for iOS and Android. Produce bullet-proof code that is robust, efficient, and maintainable.
Work daily in an Agile environment with engineers from other teams, product managers, designers, and user research to recommend solutions, define timelines, and solve customer problems. You have a demonstrated track record of being a change agent, leaving every team and process better than you found it.
Practice test-driven development, ensuring your code is covered by unit and integration tests, and continually improving the testability of our products.
Configure CI/CD systems to auotmatically build and publish your solutions to Apple and Google app stores.
Ramp up on new techniques and best practices for mobile development, and advocate improvements with the team.
Mentor junior developers through code and design reviews.
Build software with a proactive operations mindset to simplify alerting and debugging of customer issues with tools, using tools like Firebase for crash reporting and analytics, or Splunk for application logging and alerting. Participate in an on-call support rotation.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent education or experience) is required.
Master's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) is preferred.
Skills & Experience:
6 years - Developing software with mobile development languages such as Java, Kotlin, Swift, or Objective-C
6 years - Working with mobile application frameworks such as the Android\iOS SDKs and related architecture components such as Activities and Fragments \ View Controllers
Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to analyze information gathered by investigation, and report findings and recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to elicit, analyze and communicate business requirements from multiple customers across disparate functions
Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and to organize workload to ensure that timeframes are met and the work is successfully completed within deadlines.
- 2 years - Setting up multi-configuration mobile build and publishing tools like Gradle\LLVM, high-level build automation like FastLane and cloud-based CI/CD like Bitrise
