Providence Health & Services Senior Site Reliability Engineer II in Seattle, Washington


The Digital Innovation Group (DIG) at Providence Health & Services is a small but mighty product development and incubation team that is building next-gen tools that give patients convenient and easy access to healthcare virtually anywhere, anytime.

We are seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer II to lead building the security into the DNA of our product development organization. We're building a team and a culture that respects the craft of product and software engineering whereby you will provide expertise and leadership to problems that really matter.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • You will lead the security design, platform strategy, threat modeling and access controls guidelines within and across security domains for the Digital Innovation Group.

  • You will build and execute a cohesive security strategy for the Digital Innovation Group.

  • You are experienced with agile continuous delivery and DevOps and will champion the culture, processes, and tools required to maintain a frictionless high quality development environment.

  • You dive deep into technology and are on the forefront of the latest tools, technologies, and strategies and help evaluate, prototype, and introduce them to our team.

  • You will assist in building, maintaining and debugging state-of-the-art engineering technical

  • You will build strategies to utilize security automation tools to secure infrastructure hardware, software and other technical components baked into the orchestration of You are able to communicate technical ideas to non-technical team members.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.

  • 5 years of combined systems architecture experience across multiple OSes, languages and frameworks or equivalent experience.

  • 3 years’ experience working with firewalls, preventive controls, detective controls, corrective controls and information security controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and/or availability of information and/or applications.

  • 2 years’ experience supporting high availability multi-tier web applications using cloud products and vendors such as: Amazon Web Services, Azure and/or Rackspace.

  • 2 years’ experience using Puppet, Chef or other automated orchestration systems.

  • 1 years’ experience with multiple system integration frameworks (continuous integration tools)

  • Expert with design, deployment and administration of security and compliance technologies.

  • Expert in distributed reliability engineering with a solid understanding of application data flow and how it meets system infrastructure.

  • Advanced experience working with server and application hardening best practices.

  • Advanced support experience within an operating platform, Windows or Unix.

  • Advanced scripting experience in multiple languages to automate everything.

  • Strong working knowledge of networking & load balancing protocols.

  • Strong experience with Web API technologies.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Strong experience working with information security compliance programs such as SOC2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP and PCI.

  • Strong experience with a variety of monitoring tools and concepts.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and communicate technical solutions at all levels.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Expert in designing and maintaining a cloud based highly-available (HA) service-oriented-architecture (SOA) large scale experience preferred.

  • Security, cloud or system administration certifications
